In other cultures, people don’t care what they buy. But it is a common question in Indian culture that our friends, family members, or relatives ask what you shop on your trip. And we also sometimes buy something for our friends or relatives when we are on a journey.
But sometimes we buy something that we should not buy. Sometimes we buy something to please our friends or relatives which not only spoil our journey but also waste money. So on this topic, I have told you about some such things from my experience that you should never buy during your travels.
Do not buy below things on your journey
Table of Contents
1. Easy to break items
First, on the what not to buy while traveling tips are easy to break items or fragile items. There are so many things that you can buy on your trip. Except for breakable items like glasses. Glass items break quickly. Moreover, you will have to keep the glass items very carefully during your journey as they are easy to break.
Often, when we are on a journey, we like buying glass items, as a symbol of luxury. That habit should stop. Glass items are not good when you are traveling for hours. There is a high tendency that the glass will break. If a glass breaks, you can’t form it again to its original shape. In addition to that, just think about how careful you will have to keep the glass items in your entire journey. Very heavy to think, right? instead of enjoying your trip with your family, no because you are thinking of the breakable glass on your bag. Sounds funny but it is real.
The shop told you that they are unbreakable? Come on! They have to sell, always remember that. They will do everything just to sell. It is their job. And, it is your job too to enjoy your vacation. I am not saying that you should never buy glass items. Yes, you still may but, try to control. Don’t overbuy.
So, say no to breakable items!
2. Very heavy items
Don’t buy a statue! Yes, on your trip, save your luggage for more valuable items. Avoid buying super heavy things. Always remember that at the airport, they weigh your luggage. For any excess baggage, you have to pay. And this situation we don’t like.
Never ever buy weighty items if you don’t have anywhere to put them. Imagine buying a statue and you only have a backpack? So, no too heavy items. Second, on the what not to buy while traveling tips are the things you can’t possibly carry.
3. Forbidden materials
No one wants to be in jail after a happy trip. Make sure to always follow the custom rules. For example, drugs, bombs, animal parts ( ivory, tails,).
4. Illegal items
Every country has different rules and regulations and you as a tourist will have to follow their rules. Many things may be normal in your country, but not the place you are visiting. For example, pornographic items are legal in some European countries, but you can’t buy them in India. If you have bought this illegal item, then you can be not only punished but also jailed.
In many places in the world, illegal items of that country are also sold secretly. But it is best if you stay away from buying such an item because you are a tourist if caught in checking at the airport or anywhere, you can even go to jail.
So, don’t buy any illegal things to enjoy your journey. If you don’t know where you’re going and what things are considered illegal, you can do a search online to find out.
5. Drugs or Alcohol Items
Every country in the world has different laws for drugs and alcohol. Even if there is not such a strict law for this in your country, when you go on a trip to such country, then you should know about its drug and alcohol law.
Because the UK, USA, or European countries do not have such strict laws regarding alcohol. But in Asia, you can see very strict laws. For example, if you are in the Maldives, you will not find that liquor store or bar. But if you want to drink alcohol, then you have to book a resort or hotel that allows you to drink alcohol.
There are some states in India also where alcohol is completely banned. In such places, you can’t buy or drink alcohol without a permit. In India, the government gives permission to such hotels or resorts that they can sell alcohol to visiting tourist who has a visa or permit. Otherwise, alcohol is completely illegal to buy.
For this, it is better that you first know the drug and alcohol rules of the country where you are going to travel. Otherwise, you can get stuck.
6. Fruits & Vegetables
Many times it happens that you will see such fruits or vegetables in some countries which you have never seen before. And you will think that buy it and take it. But will they stay fresh throughout your journey? No way! Therefore, buy the exact amount of fruits and vegetables that you may consume during your trip. Don’t think of over buying them. But, you can try, taste and enjoy in the same place, but don’t think to buy and take it to your home.
7. Restricted Items
Avoid bringing restricted items. If you are roaming somewhere in your country then it is fine. But, if you have to face the airport on your vacation then, that is another story. So don’t ever buy any restricted items from another country that will put you into trouble. Guns with no permit, ivory, exotic animals, etc. are restricted. No airport will allow you to take such restricted items into your country. Moreover, if such an item is found on your bag, then strict action can be taken against you. It is best not to buy items such as knives, explosive items, or weapons. Don’t risk your life for a stupid souvenir.
8. Electronics Items
In other countries sometimes you will find some electronic item that is cheaper than your country. We tend to think of buying them immediately. But, before buying them think that if something goes wrong with those, will you be able to go back to that country and get them repaired? No. Also, it might cost you more than you are supposed to spend.
9. Unwanted Items
Lastly, on the what not to buy while traveling is the unwanted items. Why buy things you don’t actually need and want? You must be wondering who buys such unwanted items on their trip? But, maybe you’ve already done it. Many times it happens that when we are on our trip, the locals, taxi drivers, or guides offer us to buy some items. They praise that item and try to convince us to buy it. And to make them happy, sometimes we also buy items that we will never need. So, never make such a mistake, and do not buy items on your trip that you will never use or need.
